Cruel Garden - Sadler's Wells Theatre
The piece was conceived by Lindsay Kemp and choreographed by Christopher Bruce with music by Carlos Miranda. The set by Ralph Koltai - serving equally well as a bullring and a café - provides an atmospheric space in which the performers convey the narrative. The Cruel Garden is not intended to be an account of Lorca's life, but is an evocation of his strongly Spanish spirit, including references to aspects of his work as well as significant events in his life.
PRESS
Ballet Magazine Judy Slater played the café proprietress with such a depth of feeling that I was quite bemused to discover (belatedly) that she is not a Spanish flamenco singer at all but an opera singer who trained at the Royal College of Music in London. A most exhilarating and moving performance. |
